Why a Fee Only Financial Advisor?
Transparent, Objective, Conflict-Free Financial Advice
Johnston Investment Counsel is a fee-only financial advisory firm. That means we are only compensated through fees paid directly by our clients, and not by products, vendors, or other financial institutions. We don’t receive commissions, 12b-1 fees, referral fees, or any other form of compensation that is tied to specific products, services, or advice.
This compensation arrangement is important for our clients because it ensures that we maintain an objective approach that is free from conflicts of interest. Since we don’t receive compensation from financial products, we have no incentive to recommend a specific product
National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA)
With over 2400 members, NAPFA is the country’s leading professional association of Fee-Only financial advisors—consisting of highly trained professionals who are committed to working in the best interests of those they serve. NAPFA’s rich history began in 1983 when a group of advisors simply wanted to serve their clients without muddling the relationship with commissions. Since then, NAPFA has developed high standards in the field and each advisor must annually sign and renew a Fiduciary Oath and subscribe to NAPFA’s Code of Ethics.
NAPFA members live by three important values:
- To be the beacon for independent, objective financial advice for individuals and families.
- To be the champion of financial services delivered in the public interest.
- To be the standard bearer for the emerging profession of financial planning.
