Do You Really Need An Ivy League Degree

While the purpose of attending college is to earn a “high-paying” degree, students are also aiming to be admitted into an elite institution – if not one of the eight Ivy League schools. However, research finds that the Ivy Leagues do not have a “golden ticket” to an earnings advantage after graduation.

In a study conducted by Alan Krueger at Princeton and Stacy Dale at Mathematica Policy Research – which they conducted about a decade ago and found that Ivy League graduates did not enjoy an earnings advantage, they revisited this question once more. What recently was concluded is that students, who were accepted into elite schools but went to less selective institution earned salaries that were just as high as Ivy League grads.

Overall, what Krueger and Dale’s study found was that there are some students who did fare better financially by attending an elite college or universities. The students who fell into that category were Latino, African-American, low-income students, and also those whose parents did not graduate from college.
